Mahaan directed by S. Ramanathan was produced by Satyanarayana and Suryanarayana in Satya Chitra International production company. This was actually a remake of Shankar Guru(1978). In this film Star Amitabh Bachchan has played triple role in this movie.The movie celebrated golden jubilee (3 shows) in South India and silver jubilee (3 shows) in the rest of India.

This movie is about two brothers. One is a good policeman, played by Amitabh Bachchan, and the other is a bad guy, played by Waheeda Rehman. The story is about how the good brother gets blamed for something he didn't do, and they end up having a big fight. In this Anjaan has written lyrics and R.D. Burman has composed songs.
