Pyaasa was directed and produced by Guru Dutt and it was also written and starred by Guru Dutt along with Mala Sinha, Waheeda Rehman, Rehman, and Johnny Walker. This movie was considered as the best film of India in 1957. This was commercially successful at that time. It also got remade into the Telugu film Mallepoovu (1978).

This movie revolves around Vijay who was an unsuccessful poet and he met Gulabo who admires his work but wrongly he was declared dead after that he became famous because he rejects this fame, showing the struggle of true artists in society. Pyaasa movie was a masterpiece of Indian cinema in which S.D Burman has composed songs.
